Ayurveda has given some guidance on the natural methods to get more healthy and shiny hair:
Increasing the consumption of fruits, vegetables, and water in the diet will be the first step to change. The increase in Iron and Magnesium will make a difference
Massage the hair and scalp with warm Coconut oil at least three times a week (please see the blog article on Hair Care)
Exercise regularly as it will help to control Vata in the body that is responsible for causing dryness. Exercise can be intense as Aerobics and boxing or relaxing like Yoga and at least 30 minutes is recommended on a daily basis.
A handful of Fenugreek seeds soaked in Coconut oil and stored away from the sunlight can be applied to prevent the hair fall.
In Ayurveda, there is much emphasis of the Agni of the body which is increased by keeping the Gastro-intestinal tract clean. Take a mild laxative or a high fiber diet to detox and remove constipation. This will help facilitate hair growth.
Avoid washing your hair on a daily basis and wash 2-3 times a week using a natural, organic shampoo which does not contain harmful chemicals. Shikakai as a natural cleanser is recommended.
Do not use hair straightening tools that use intense heat to manage the hair. In time, this can cause dryness to the hair and cause hair splits and fall.
Lastly, keeping oneself calm emotionally and getting a good sleep is essential for overall health – not just the hair.
